Land Protection

It's always good to use protection

What is land protection?
On the Survival server, you can build freely by typing /build. Because of this freedom, people often will destroy other structures built by other people (this is known as griefing). In order to protect your land from other people, create a land protection around your structure.

Protecting land
There are several major steps in creating a land protection:

  1. Obtain a stick and walk to one corner of your building
  2. Left-click (punch) a corner of the land near your building
  3. Walk to the other corner of the area, and right-click the other corner
  4. Use the command /rg check to check the cost of this protection
  5. If you are happy with the price, use /rg create [name] to create a protection with that name
  6. Your land is now protected. Ask a friend to come and try breaking blocks on the protected area

Adding other people to your region
Have friends you would like to build on your protected area? You can give building permission to specific people and allow them to build and destroy blocks in the protection. Use /rg add [player] to add a player to the region, and /rg remove [player] to revoke building access. They still will not be able to add protected chests to the area or add other players.

Renaming the region
If you'd like to change the name of your region, use /region rename [name], where the name argument is the new name of the region. Make sure to stand in the region you'd like to rename, and that you are the owner of it.

Setting region flags
The owner of a region can set flags which control specific aspects of the region. Use /rg flag [flag] to toggle a flag while standing on the region you want to modify. The flags are listed below:

  • mobs — allow or disallow mob spawning (default: no mob spawning)
  • pve — allow or disallow anyone to hurt animals on the protection (default: animals are protected, region builders can hurt mobs regardless)
  • chests — enable or disable built-in region chest protection, when disabled builders can place chests and anyone can open them (default: enabled, only the region owner can place or break chests)

Deleting your protection
Use /rg delete to delete the protection you're standing in. This will not refund you, but will open up the protection to be edited by anybody (just like a normal piece of unclaimed land). Admins can delete any protection whether they own it or not.

Learning about a protection
To learn about who owns a protected region and see the list of allowed builders, use /rg info while standing in a protected area.

Listing all regions
To see how many regions you have, use /rg list. To see a list of all regions on the server, use /rg listall. Since many regions are defined, you can scroll through pages by using /rg listall [page].

Region Marketplace (for landlords)

What is the region marketplace?
Regions are great for protecting land, but they also can be used to sell and lease buildings. With the new marketplace feature, you can put your building up for sale or lease using regions, and create easy-to-use ways to buy the land or enter into a lease agreement.

Selling regions Leasing regions

If you make a structure you'd like to sell, protect it and sell it using the region marketplace. Follow the steps below to sell your region:

  1. Create a new region around your structure. (see above)
  2. Add your region to the marketplace using /rg sell [price] for the price you specify. This is a one-time amount deducted from the player who purchases the region and added to your balance.
  3. The region is now available for purchase.
Once a region is sold, the player who purchases the region will be added as an owner to that region and have full access to it. You will automatically be removed from the region.

Leasing regions allows you to enter into an agreement for a limited time which allows a player to temporary use a property you have created. Leases are valid for only the number of days you specify. A player can renew their lease, but if they don't renew then you the region is automtaically put up for lease again. Follow the steps below to lease your region:

  1. Create a new region around your structure. (see above)
  2. Add your region to the marketplace using /rg lease [price] [days]. The [days] argument sets the amount of days the lease period lasts, and the price is the amount the player pays to lease the region for that many days.
  3. Craft a book and write your lease agreement. Lease agreements must be well-written and cover any issues that may occur during the lease time. If an argument arises, refer to this agreement. (see below for an example)
  4. Hold the signed book and use /rg lease agreement.
  5. The region is now available for lease.
Once a region is leased, the player who leases the region will be added as a builder to that region. They will not be able to set flags or add other members. The only access they will have is building access during the limited amount of days you specify. They can renew their lease during that time to add additional days. They can also cancel their agreement early at any time without penalty.

Example lease agreement
Lease agreements should cover many potential issues that may arise during the lease period. Should any dispute arise, the agreement will take priority, followed by the words of the person who owns the region being leased. The person who purchases the land does not have any say in a dispute. Therefore, the agreement should include as much information as possible about the lease. You can re-use the same book for multiple regions. Lease agreements should include:

  • Lease time and cost
  • Whether the player can change the building structure
  • Whether the player can use the chests, furnaces, etc.
  • What happens if the player is offline for a set timespan
  • Procedures for reclaiming items left in the region after the lease expires
  • Lease renewal
  • Eviction process and conditions
  • If the landlord is allowed to access the house during the lease
  • Adding other builders to the lease
  • Recognition that the landlord has the final say in any dispute
"I am going to lease my penthouse for $20 per month (30 days). You are allowed to place chests and move the furniture around, but large changes to the walls or floors are not allowed without my permission. You don't have access to any other part of my mansion. If you are offline for more than 2 weeks, I will assume that you are no longer using the penthouse and I will cancel the agreement and lease to another player. If the 1 month lease expires and you do not renew it, or if you are gone for more than 2 weeks, your items will NOT be made available to you when you log back on. If you leave items in a chest, I will own them from that point on. You can renew the lease as much as you want. I will stay out of the penthouse during your lease and not touch your items. I also will not add other builders to the lease for you to build with. This is only for you. Should a dispute arise, I have the final say."

Creating marketplace signs

Players can, instead of typing in commands, use a sign to buy and lease regions. As the region landlord, you are responsible for putting these signs up. They can display the price of a region for sale and allow players to click to purchase the region, or they can display the current lease details and allow one-click leasing. The sign will automatically populate with all the information. To remove the sign, just break it. Removing the sign will not remove the region from the marketplace.

If the sign is inside the region you're selling/leasing: If the sign is anywhere, inside or outside the region:

Place a sign and make the first line [region].

Place a sign and make the first line [region]. Make the second line of the sign the region name you're trying to sell. If the name is longer than what can fit on the sign, you will need to place the sign in the actual region.

Region Marketplace (for all players)

Buying regions Leasing regions

To buy a region, first use /rg buy while standing in it. This will show you who owns the region, as well as the current state of the region in the marketplace. If the region is available for sale, the price will be shown and an underlined link will be displayed. (This information can also be displayed if you click on a region "buy" sign.) Upon clicking the link, the money will be deducted from your acount and you will be added as an owner to that region. You now have full permissions for that area, and the original owner of the region will be removed. There is no way to undo a purchase, but you are free to re-sell the land.

To lease a region, first use /rg info while standing in it. This will show you who owns the region, as well as the current state of the region in the marketplace. If the region is available for lease, the price and lease timespan will be shown and an underlined link will be displayed. (This information can also be displayed if you click on a region "lease" sign.) Upon clicking the link, you will be presented with the lease agreement. If you choose to accept the agreement, the money will be deducted from your acount and you will be added as a builder to that region. Your lease will last as long as the agreement states.

Renewing or cancelling a lease
By default, leases to not automatically renew. Enabling automatic renewal will deduct the cost from your balance at the regular interval (the number of days stated in the lease agreement) and keep you as a builder in that region. To see information about your lease, use /lease. From here, you can renew the lease, view the agreement, or cancel the lease. You are allowed to cancel your lease at any time without penalty. Alternatively, you can ensure automatic renewal is disabled and let it expire.
